Are handmade Hanukkah gifts always appreciated?

I am tired of just giving cash, to my family, or a gift they don’t care about. I need a new idea. Hanukkah is a big deal to me and I want gifts that will impart the meaning of the celebration, but still be enjoyable. Give me your thoughts.
