Want to make a headboard myself for bed?

I bought a great upholstery fabric and ons and went to buy the foam padding and batting and was shocked! The directions call for 2 inch thick foam padding and the fabric stores are selling them for no less than 90 bucks a piece and the batting was almost just as much but came in a huge quantity (40 yards)! Is there something else cheaper..way cheaper..that I could use for the batting and foam? thanks in advance!
