If Science perfected a beautiful, intelligent, anotomically-perfect Android, could you fall in love with it?
As I sit here glued my laptop, with my e-reader close beside me and my iRobot Roomba vacuuming, I can see that the electronic age has already fulfilled many niches in life already, and I have no doubt at all that electronic companions are on the horizon. And yes, I do think people will be able to fall in love with it - look at how they fall in "love" with total strangers on the internet. They're falling in love with the fantasy. The biggest problem once these perfect androids are available will be getting people to get together to actually reproduce and/or form families. Let's face it - human beings are difficult, abrasive and thick-headed. Who wouldn't rather spend time with a robot programmed to be your best friend and, I'm uming, lover? (Remember Stepford Wives?) We might just "technology" ourselves into extinction.
